Spell Ingredients for February
Love letters and heart ache.
It’s the month of love and the world seems dangerously low of it. I don’t have anything interesting or different to say about the horrific and neverending news. My heart hurts. But this quote stuck with me.
Food banks need you, electoral campaigns need you, mutual aid needs you, protests and rallies need you. There are basically endless roles to be played, but none of them are “person who felt the most stressed out about politics while scrolling on their phone.”
If you have time, the whole carousel is worth a read but it essentially boils down to being stressed doesn’t help, helping helps.
And this brings me to my first ingredient for February…
A dash of action —
There is a place near me who collect items for people who are newly moved to the area with nothing, usually due to being refugees or fleeing domestic/sexual violence. They may have been given shelter and details for securing the basics. But, once those needs are met, it’s the homeware that becomes alchemical - turning a bare flat into an actual home. That protective magic is so in line with how I view the home. I’ll be collecting things throughout to donate monthly.
A splash of ink —
I’d like to honour my friends, these women that I love more than life. And not a hastily typed text or a quick ‘love you, bye’ as we hang up a call. I’d like to put it into words - everything they mean to me, everything I feel about them, and everything I dream for them. Even if my handwriting may not exactly scream ‘love letter’.
A pinch of dirt —
Every year, it gets to June and I let out a shriek that only dogs can hear. I have forgotten again to do any gardening and now I’m seeing bunches of flowers in people’s garden or my friends are showing me their freshly grown tomatoes. This year, I am going to plan. There’s not too much to plant this time of year, but I can at least clear out the weeds, top up the soil, and get my seeds ready to sow.
In the crystal ball —
Thank you for reading. I’d love to hear what you’re putting in your February potion?
Wishing you a magical month ahead ✨
